When you're in the market for a car, choose the one with the highest fuel economy that meets your needs and fits your budget. Check the gas mileage ratings for the models you are considering. It’s easy to find models that get two or more miles per gallon ("MPG") better than average for their size or type. Even 2 MPG better mileage will save over 13 barrels of oil over the life of an average vehicle. Find out how much you can save.
Also keep fuel economy in mind when choosing features for your car:
- rarely used four-wheel drive increases fuel consumption
- avoid add-ons that add weight and/or drag
- a smaller engine will result in greater fuel efficiency and less air pollution
Drive calmly, avoiding the jackrabbit starts and stops that waste fuel and increase pollution.
Save yourself from a scalding: Set your water heater to 115°. An insulating blanket on an older water heater also keeps heat from escaping. You'll count the difference in your lower energy payments and that means less pollution. |
